Made in America (Unfinished Book #1)

This post hasn't been updated in over 3 years.

Made in America, Bill Bryson, finished Mar 2011. An excerpt from the Wright Brothers/Kitty Hawk chapter shown.

Yes, it’s true! I actually finished an “unfinished book”. 1 out of 2 before March 2011 yo! 😀

I finished “Made in America” by Bill Bryson earlier this week, at lunchtime. Why is that important? To show that sometimes I read books at lunchtime. 😛

This book took me, in total, 6 years to finish. Homaigash.

But really, it’s a terrific read. There is a lot about word and phrase etymology, but I find that rather interesting. The stories contained within – about famous and not-so-famous people in America, who were either part of beginnings, endings, or in-betweens of cultural evolutions – are a delight to read.

Wishlist for Government Swimming Pools

I would be particularly pleased if the two pools in the vicinity of the National Stadium in Berakas could kindly take note.

  • Fix those outdoor showers and reduce the rush and queuing for showers at 6.00pm.
  • Please don’t tell me that there are “no more” locker room keys. Devise effective penalties to those who don’t return their keys.

the story of me and blogging

This post hasn't been updated in over 3 years.

Writing – whether journalling or ranting, whether a story or a poem – is a very personal thing for me.

I remember getting my first diary somewhere around 8 years of age. It had a lock and key, and the pages were not marked with dates. Ever since then, I have always kept a written or typed account.

I always kept my journals private, but blogs are typically meant for an audience. I started publishing my thoughts online when I was around 13 or 14, and eventually it became known as “blogging”. It turned into this art form, and done properly, it could make you influential, and in some cases, even rich. Blogging evolved. You could write thought-provoking essays, or be a photoblogger. You could choose a theme, or devise your own unique writing style.

Origins of supermarkets; self-improvement to benefit others; and how TV ruins our lives (Unfinished Books, Q1 2011)

This post hasn't been updated in over 3 years.

So I thought I’d set a clearer goal than just, “Finish 6 previously unfinished books in a year“.

Hence, come 31 Mar 2011, I should have finished any 2 of the following books:

A little bit more about each book:

Excerpt from Chapter 2, The Horse-Stealers and Other Stories

I said I’d do it. I said, “Bring it on”.

However, my e-Book review for January 2011 is… missing!

I thought I’d finish “The Horse-Stealers and Other Stories” by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov by the end of the month, but apparently not 🙁 I am still on Chapter 2!

Should I get a shorter e-Book to read? </cop out>

I will try my best, and update accordingly. Really! 🙁
